Overview
Long Island Creek Site 3B is located in the Upper Chattahoochee watershed in Sandy Springs, Georgia. Site 3B is located off of lake Placid Drive which lies between an appartment complex and commercial buildings. It is a tributary that flows into site 3A. Site 3B was monitored once a week for three weeks between 12 June and 26 June 2012. During the observation period there was little rain fall which occured within the 24 hours prior to 12 June. The creek flows very slowly, if at all, and is lined with small to medium sized rocks, vegetation, and the occasional fallen tree. The water remained fairly clear with a brownish tint.
Land Uses/ Activities and Impervious Cover
The stream flows in between two areas of impervious cover. Looking downstream, the left bank is a steep hill that leads to the adjacent appartment complex. The right bank is a mostly flat area with vegatation and then rises to Lake Placid Drive and an access road to the commercial buildings.
General Waterbody and Watershed Characteristics
Because of the close proximity of residential and commercial areas, litter was quite common on Long Island Site 3B. With the steep bank on the residential side and a large area of impervious surfaces on the other, it is very possible for runoff from both sides to enter the stream.
